Test methodology

All earbuds were tested under identical conditions:

  • Audio source: 256kbps AAC stream via Bluetooth from a Pixel 9 Pro
  • Volume: Calibrated to 75dB SPL at the ear canal
  • ANC mode: Maximum noise cancellation where available
  • Transparency mode: Off during ANC tests, tested separately
  • Temperature: 22C indoor environment
  • Measurement: Time from 100% to auto-shutdown, averaged over 3 runs

  • Sony WF-1000XM5 and Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 fell significantly short of their claimed figures — Sony's 8-hour claim was off by over 2 hours
  • Jabra Elite 10 actually exceeded its claimed battery life, the only earbuds in our test to do so
