Samsung's thinnest-ever flagship is here. The Galaxy S25 Edge was revealed at a dedicated launch event in San Jose, confirming months of leaks and teasers. At just 6.4mm thick, it undercuts even Apple's rumored thin iPhone by a meaningful margin — and Samsung wants you to know it.

What makes the Edge different

The S25 Edge is not simply a slimmed-down Galaxy S25. Samsung redesigned the internal layout from scratch, adopting a new stacked battery architecture and a custom vapor chamber that wraps around the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. Key specs:

  • Display: 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 2560 x 1080, 1-120Hz LTPO
  • Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy
  • RAM/Storage: 12GB / 256GB or 512GB
  • Cameras: 200MP main (1/1.56" sensor), 50MP ultrawide, 12MP 3x telephoto
  • Battery: 3,900mAh with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging
  • Thickness: 6.4mm, 163g

The battery is the obvious compromise. At 3,900mAh, it is roughly 1,200mAh smaller than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung says it compensates with aggressive power management tuned for the 8 Elite's efficiency cores, but we will reserve judgment until real-world testing.

Camera system

Samsung kept the 200MP main sensor from the Ultra line but dropped the periscope telephoto in favor of a smaller 3x lens. For most users, 3x is the more practical focal length anyway — you lose the 5x and 10x reach of the Ultra, but gain a pocketable device that still shoots detailed 12MP binned photos in any light.

Video tops out at 8K/30fps or 4K/120fps with improved stabilization. The ultrawide gets autofocus this generation, useful for macro shots.

Software and AI

The Edge ships with One UI 7.1 on Android 15 and the full suite of Galaxy AI features: Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, and the new Sketch to Image tool. Samsung promises seven years of OS updates and security patches, matching the Galaxy S25 Plus.

Pricing and availability

  • 256GB: $1,099
  • 512GB: $1,219

Pre-orders open March 28, with general availability on April 11. Samsung is offering up to $400 trade-in credit for Galaxy S23 and S24 owners. Compared to the S25 Ultra vs S25 Plus matchup, the Edge carves out a niche for people who want Ultra-tier cameras without the bulk.

Early verdict

The Galaxy S25 Edge is Samsung's answer to the growing demand for thinner, lighter flagships. Whether the battery holds up and whether the 3x telephoto satisfies power users are the two big questions. We will have a full review soon.
