Two flagship camera phones from Xiaomi, but separated by a full generation of silicon and a $500 price difference. Starting with performance: the 15 Ultra's Snapdragon 8 Elite is a meaningful step up over the 8 Gen 3, offering roughly 30-40% better CPU throughput and improved efficiency. The 8 Elite's cores clock at 4.32 GHz versus the 14 Ultra's 3.3 GHz peak, and real-world thermal management is noticeably better. Camera systems tell an interesting story. The 14 Ultra's quad 50MP setup with a variable aperture main lens (f/1.6-f/4.0) remains genuinely excellent, but the 15 Ultra counters with a 200MP periscope telephoto at 5x, which offers far more detail for cropping and long-range shots. Both use the same 1-inch Sony sensor for their primary cameras. Battery capacity grows from 5300 mAh to 5810 mAh on the 15 Ultra, though wireless charging drops from 80W to 50W, a real tradeoff for wireless charging enthusiasts. Display brightness ticks up slightly to 3200 nits. At $999 versus $1499, the 15 Ultra delivers better specs at a $500 discount, which makes it the clear choice for new buyers. The 14 Ultra only makes sense if you specifically value the variable aperture lens or the faster 80W wireless charging and can find it heavily discounted.
